Eduard Horvat, an internist from Dubrava in Zagreb, has just finished a 24-hour shift and only wants to sleep. Then he finds an envelope from his late father under the door: a key, a letter and a cassette tape. Eduard: Centrum Mundi is a comic point & click adventure in the spirit of classics like Monkey Island and Indiana Jones, built in-house from the story to release on Google Play and Apple's App Store.
Dad's cottage in the vineyards near Ludbreg is caught up in a fake wine scam. A white van drives empty bottles out of Dubrava every night, golden labels promise Istrian wine, and the castle on the label doesn't exist. Edi pieces together his father's clues, cassettes, drawings, Roman numerals and an old sundial, from a Zagreb tram turnaround to the waterfront of Rovinj and back.
- Real places: Dubrava with its market, tram turnaround and the tower blocks of Koledinečka, the main square and vineyards of Ludbreg with a klopotec wind rattle, the old town of Rovinj and a sea cave beneath Punta Corrente
- 28 scenes: across the prologue and four chapters, with close-ups for the puzzles: a fuse box, a chest with Roman numerals, a map that draws itself from Dubrava to Ludbreg
- Puzzles: with items, codes, maps, a statue that turns with the wind and a Roman sundial
- Characters: neighbour Anka and her blood pressure, Nada from the market, Tomo the tram driver who misquotes Krleža, Auntie Barica, Jura the vineyard watchman, the Tikvić brothers, Lorena the sommelier…
- Fully voiced: in English and Croatian, around 1,500 lines in each language, with lip sync and music for every scene
- Classic controls made for a phone: tap to walk and look, drag items out of Edi's doctor's bag, combine them, and a light bulb gives a free hint when you get stuck
- The prologue is free: the full game is a one-time €4.99 purchase, with no ads and no subscription. For players aged 13 and up (the game refers to alcohol)
I ran the whole cycle: the story and a scene-by-scene script, puzzle design, art direction, scenes and characters, character animation, voices for every character and music, a user interface in Croatian and English, the in-app purchase, store screenshots and texts for both stores, and trailers in Croatian and English.
Technology: game — HTML5 Canvas and JavaScript, with an in-house engine for scenes, walking on a floor polygon, the inventory and dialogue, no off-the-shelf game engine. The characters are cut-out rigs: body parts are animated in code (walking, breathing, gestures), and the mouth shape follows the line being spoken. Android and iOS — Capacitor, a one-time in-app purchase.
