Sauna Wellness: a website for Auroom saunas in Croatia

Mladen Tišljar Mladen Tišljar

Fitness oprema d.o.o. from Zagreb sells Auroom saunas in Croatia. Auroom has been handcrafting saunas from thermally modified wood for more than 25 years. The client needed a website on sauna-wellness.hr with every model from the Auroom site, with descriptions and videos, but made their own and in Croatian. I designed and built the whole site, translated all the content and set it up on their hosting.

The design direction is called "Embers and steam". The site is dark like a sauna in the evening, with an orange accent the colour of glowing embers, while light sections in the tone of pale wood give the eye a rest. Headings are set in Gilda Display, body text in Manrope. On the homepage, steam rises from the bottom of the screen, drawn live on a canvas. A thermometer at the edge of the screen climbs from 40 to 100 degrees as you scroll. Content reveals itself gradually and the images drift gently with the scroll.

The catalogue holds 17 models: eight indoor and nine outdoor saunas, including the VelAqua outdoor shower and the VelEira ice bath. A filter splits the models into indoor and outdoor, and the counter follows the selection. Visitors who do not know where to start can take the short "Which sauna is right for me?" quiz on the homepage. Three questions about the location, the number of people and the style, and the site suggests the models that fit.

Every model has its own page. The gallery scrolls like a film strip, with a tab for each size or version, for example Lumina M, Mini and L. Most models also have a video, which loads only on click, so the page stays fast. Then come the key features, materials and floor plans, for most models a technical sheet in PDF, and similar models. There are no prices. Instead, a "Send an enquiry for Lumina" button follows the visitor down the page, and the form already knows which sauna it is about.

Alongside the saunas there is a Custom saunas page for spaces from 0.9 to 100 m², equipment and accessories (heaters, infrared panels, controllers, stones and aromas), the Auroom story and a contact page with a map. The main menu has a mega menu with a thumbnail next to every sauna. On mobile the menu opens full screen, the filters stack into a grid, and the enquiry button appears at the bottom only once the one in the intro has scrolled away.

The client only had the logo as a small image from an email signature. I redrew it in high resolution and turned it into a vector, in black and white versions. Enquiries from the form arrive by email at the company address, and the form is protected from spam without a CAPTCHA. On fitnessoprema.com I also added a small card that lets visitors know the company now sells saunas too.

Part of the work does not show in the pictures. All the content was taken from the Auroom website and translated from English. The site first lived on a test address until the client approved it, and then went live on their hosting with HTTPS, redirects, a custom 404 page, compression and a sitemap.

Technologies: Static HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no framework, assembled from JSON content by a custom Python generator. Animations run on GSAP and ScrollTrigger, the steam is drawn on a canvas and all images are WebP. The enquiry form runs on PHP. Fonts are Gilda Display and Manrope.
