Street Food King — the Gastro Container that drops from the sky

Street Food King GmbH

Street Food King GmbH from Oberuzwil, Switzerland, builds custom food trucks, trailers and gastro containers. The star of this video is a Gastro Container built for the butcher's shop Metzgerei Schmid from St. Gallen: a black container with roller shutters, a sign that rises out of the roof and a fully equipped kitchen. The client sent footage of the container inside and out, and my job was to turn it into a promo video.

How it came together

The video went through several versions, from a longer, calmer cut to short, fast ones for social media, each with music composed for it. Then the client sent a voice message with a new idea: the container should drop from the sky with a bang, the camera should circle it once, fast, and only then should it open and the story begin. I turned that into a shot list, a plan of the video shot by shot, and once it was approved, I edited the whole video. The finished video is 46 seconds long, in 16:9, with no text apart from the end card.

The effect: the container drops from the sky

The container never fell from the sky. It stood in the same spot the whole time. The drop was created with AI and joined to the real footage so that the seam does not show.

  • Two images as start and end: from the first frame of the real footage, AI made two images from the same angle. One shows the container with its shutters down, the other shows the same spot empty: just grass, asphalt and the “Street Food King” signpost.
  • An AI video in between: a video generation tool got the empty image as the first frame and the image with the container as the last one. In between it drew the fall, the impact and a cloud of dust. Because the AI shot ends on the image made from the real frame, the cut into the real video cannot be seen.
  • Finishing touches: the AI had tinted the falling container blue, so its colour was corrected to match the real shot. The fall was sped up, a single white frame flashes on impact and the picture shakes briefly, and the dust was slowed down so you can watch it settle.
  • A circle around the container: a second AI shot in which the camera quickly circles the container and returns to the same spot. After that the video cuts to the real footage and the shutters go up.
  • Sound: the whistle of the fall, the bang, creaking metal and trickling dust, all created with AI, over the ambience of the park.
  • What I cut: I also tried a shot of the sky the container falls from, but in that shot the container looked like a shipping container. So the video starts straight with the fall.

The rest of the video

After the landing the pace calms down. The shutters go up, the sign rises out of the roof, and then come the details: the door, stainless steel surfaces, the extractor hood, the refrigerated display, staff serving, sausages on the grill and the first guests. The video ends on a slow-motion shot of the container in the park. The music was composed with AI and the cuts land exactly on the beat. The end card follows Street Food King's black-and-gold style: the logo drops and settles next to the line “Ihre Vision. Unser Modul.”

For Street Food King I have also done video production and a video trailer for SFK Foodtrucks.
